Mahama has Borrowed GHC59 Billion in Less Than 50 Days - Stephen Amoah

According to Nhyiaeso MP Dr. Stephen Amoah, the government has borrowed GHS 59 billion in less than fifty days since the Mahama administration took office.

Dr. Amoah said this to the press in Parliament on February 27, 2025, during President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).

“Where did the President [Mahama] receive the money for all of the payments he mentioned? In less than two months, the NDC government borrowed about GH¢59 billion, a record amount. “Ghanaians gave them the mandate, but they must be held accountable,” Dr Amoah stated.

He explained: “We handed over a restored economy to the Mahama government—an economy that was operational and fundamentally strong.”

During the SONA, President John Dramani Mahama stated that youth unemployment is Ghana’s largest concern.

He notes that youth unemployment jeopardizes national security. To that purpose, he established the Ministry of Youth Development to address the issue of youth unemployment.

He remarked, “Youth unemployment has caused despair and dissatisfaction. This poses a significant security risk to our country and deserves immediate attention.

In other news, President Mahama has encouraged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its minority in Parliament not to boycott the upcoming national economic forum, as they did at the Senchi Forum.

In his maiden State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Thursday, February 27, he stated that he wants to bring everyone on board to strengthen the country. “I am confident that the sacrifice we have all made this year will benefit our county going into the future,” claimed the governor.

“Together, we will build the Ghana we all want,” he emphasized.

The Mahamaa administration has scheduled the National Economic Dialogue on March 3rd and 4th, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

This significant conference will provide an opportunity for Ghanaians to address critical economic concerns and develop effective solutions to promote long-term economic prosperity. President Mahama will open the debate with a Keynote Address titled “Resetting Ghana: Building the Economy We Want Together.”

This project is a critical step in fulfilling President Mahama’s campaign commitment to engage residents in discussions that shape their economic future. The debate will foster consensus and collaboration among participants on key policy and structural improvements.

The forum’s findings are expected to pave the way for economic revitalization, ultimately increasing business opportunities and improving living conditions throughout the country. It will bring together prominent figures from the commercial sector, academia, public policy agencies, and civil society organizations.
