One of the campaign promises of the president elect, John Mahama, was to scrap off the 10% betting tax.In Mahama’s reset Ghana agenda,he stated that he will rationalize taxes. Even abolishing among others what he describes as the obnoxious e-levy.He also assured to scrap off the covid levy and the 10%levy on bet winings.However Professor Adjei, a concerned citizen, has expressed his desire to rather increase the tax to 50% .

Mr.Adjei explained how disastrous the betting habits could be to the individual and to the economy as a whole. He explained that this behavior was a cancer that needed to be dealt with not encouraged. His concern was on the social vices this attitude of betting could lead to if left unchecked.
Mr Fred pointed to the current state of betting in the country which he described as worrisome. He stated that the time effort and money laid by the youth in this exercise was alarming. He therefore urged the incoming government to increase the betting tax to discourage the youth from indulging in this exercise.
