Chaos Erupts in Ada Over West Africa’s Largest Salt Deposit

Tensions have escalated in the Ada-Songor District as local residents clash with police and military personnel over disputed salt mine concessions involving McDan’s Electrochem.
A private individual and Four Chiefs of Ada have filed two separate lawsuits against taken Electrochem Ghana limited owned by business Daniel Mckorley and a private citizen has taken The community feels betrayed, disputing the company’s claims of supporting them through scholarships, employment, and other benefits.

This sentiment is shared by some leaders including Naana Korleki Korley I the Divisional Queen Mother of Tekpebiawe Clan who initially supported the company but later discovered that the company has taken a greater interest than promised.

The situation reached a boiling point on December 25th, with reports of the police and military clashing with the locals as shown in some circulated videos.

The standoff has raised concerns about the exploitation of natural resources, community rights, and the role of government agencies in resolving such disputes.
