No doubt De Minaur’s work rate in terms of power generation on serves has gone up. That factor surely played a role in the damage he caused Goffin while beating him at 6-2 in the first set.
This is what De Minaur said after the match.
“The ultimate goal is to find a balance between the two. In the past, everyone was saying that I wasn’t getting enough out of my serve, but no one mentioned that I was making 60-70% of my first serves. Now, it’s the other way around—I generate a lot of power, but my first-serve percentage is low. It feels like I can never win, but the goal is to achieve the highest possible speed with the highest possible percentage. So, that’s what I’ve been working on: finding that balance. The way I see it, in important moments, I’m finding my serve, and it gives me a lot of free points, which has definitely made a difference in my game.”
