Disruption In Parliament Over Ablakwa and Akandoh ‘s Vetting.

Chaos erupted in Ghana’s Parliament during the vetting of Ministerial nominees Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh. The Minority MPs expressed their discontent with the continuation of the process, leading to a physical altercation that resulted in broken tables and destroyed microphones.

The public has strongly condemned the actions of the MPs, deeming them unpardonable. Political analyst Mr. Jonathan Asante Otchere questioned the Minority Leader’s decision to subject a nominee to two hours of scrutiny, suggesting that the questions asked were more philosophical than relevant to the needs of Ghanaians, and this action painted a different picture.

Otchere emphasized the importance of the Minority’s role in ensuring accountability but stressed that their actions must be condemned.
Every other ministry is important but the business of parliament must continue. He called for an unqualified apology from the MPs and suggested that clear guidelines be established for future vetting processes, including time allocations for questioning.

The incident has led to a change in venue for the next day’s vetting, and the police had to intervene to restore order.
