Energy Crisis Management -Government holds emergency meeting to find solutions

President Mahama, through his team led by Chief of Staff Mr. Julius Debrah, is holding a consultative meeting with key advisors from the energy sector and other stakeholders to address the looming crisis inherited by the new government on its first day in office.

According to Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, the government needed a briefing to gain insight into the situation. To that end, they invited officers such as Mr. Frank Otchere, the System Officer from GRIDCo.

John Jinapor revealed that the national reserve has only a few hours left. The meeting discussed the company’s previous request for a month-long shutdown for maintenance. Acquiring liquid gas to supplement the scarcity has become critical.

Mr. Kwakye shared that after the President-elect’s briefing following his election, he was assured that the maintenance scheduled for October-November last year had been shifted to January 20. However, all measures would be taken before assuming office. Unfortunately, the looming crisis hit after just one day in office.

The Chief of Staff has required stakeholders to provide updates by the close of business on January 8, 2025, to enable the government to explore options to minimize the impact.

The spokesperson confidently assured that the government is fully committed to addressing the issue at hand and will take proactive steps to resolve it, rather than adopting a complacent attitude.
