What is Mpox?
Monkey pox now referred to as Mpox is an infectious disease caused by monkey pox virus that spreads through physical contact. Symptoms include:
- Rash
- Fever
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Muscle aches
- Back pain
- Low energy
- Swollen lymph nodes
How Mpox Spreads
The rash starts as a flat sore, turns into a fluid-filled blister, and can be painful or itchy. Lesions appear on various body parts (face, arms, groin, back) and heal as they dry up and fall off.
Prevention
To prevent Mpox:
- Practice good hygiene
- Wash hands thoroughly
- Reduce close contact
- Maintain clean sanitation
- Avoid undercooked or cold foods
Government Response
Ghana’s health authorities are working to contain the virus. According to Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the public health system is vigilant, and protocols are in place to manage the situation. The government is committed to protecting public health and trusts the healthcare system’s ability to handle the outbreak.
