A heavy downpour struck Koforidua on Sunday 18th May 2025 ,causing severe flooding in parts of the city. The area around the famous Corner Bar, extending towards the Koforidua New Station, among the worst affected.
The rains, which began around 5:30 p.m., lasted for over two hours, overwhelming drains and inundating streets and homes. Eyewitnesses reported that floodwaters rose quickly, leaving pedestrians stranded and some vehicles partially submerged.
“The water reached knee level within minutes,” said Akua Cecelia, a shop owner near Corner Bar. “We had to close early and move goods to higher ground.”
Commuters heading towards the New Station were forced to reroute or wait for the floodwaters to subside. Local businesses in the affected area also suffered minor damages due to water intrusion.
The intensity of Sunday’s downpour caught many residents off guard.

Municipal authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but some residents are calling for urgent drainage improvements and better flood preparedness as the rainy season progresses.
