According to Ahmed Barusso, his knee injury caused him to be neglected .In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah, He mentioned that His knee injury resulted partly from constant play on synthetic pitches. The injury ,which kept him from participating for a significant part of the season served an open door for Fernandes. He explained that they played and trained on synthetic pitches ,which had a toll on him

He recalled that Fernandes who was then part of the Youth team was promoted to the senior squad.
‘We played and trained on synthetic pitches which took a toll on me. As a result I was sidelined for the season with a knee injury and that gave them the chance to promote Fernandes from the juvenile side to the senior team’
He explained that Fernandes has since gone ahead to make a name for himself. Over the next years he continued to make an impression. He eventually joined Sampdoria in2017 and moved to Sporting CP the year after.
Fernandes moved on to become one of the most sought after mid fielders in the world . He then signed up with Manchester United .
On the other side, Barusso stated that His injury compelled him to return to Ghana. After that He moved to Arezzo in Serie C. He also played for Ghana in the 2008 African Cup of Nations. Here, He played two matches as the team secured a bronze medal.
