President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an immediate investigation into the National Service Authority’s ghost names scandal, following the discovery of 81,885 suspected ghost names on the payroll. These names were found after a headcount of active National Service personnel, initiated by the Minister for Finance to clear outstanding allowances dating back to August 2024.
The investigation, to be conducted by the National Investigation Bureau, aims to restore integrity to the system. Notably, the Ministry of Finance has released GHS 226,019,224 to settle allowance payment arrears for 98,145 verified National Service personnel.

This development comes after a significant discrepancy was found between the actual number of personnel and the figures presented by the previous administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa. President Mahama has also tasked the new management of the Authority to implement urgent reforms to prevent future occurrences of ghost names.
