With only three days left until the swearing-in of the new president-elect, the outgoing majority in Parliament has accused the NDC Leadership of orchestrating post-election violence. Specifically, they’ve named Col(Rtd) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey and Totobi Quakyi as key figures involved in these alleged incidents, which reportedly include attacks on state institutions and government officials.
These accusations come on the heels of President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s announcement of his interim national security team, which notably includes both Gbevlo-Lartey and Quakyi. In a press briefing, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, expressed alarm over the alleged violence and its implications for national security.
“We’ve received reliable intelligence indicating that certain elements within the NDC leadership are orchestrating acts of violence and thuggery,” Appiagyei stated. “Totobi Quakyi and Col. (Rtd) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey are key figures behind these thugs, inspiring them to commit violence against innocent Ghanaians.”
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Majority Chief Whip, echoed these concerns, urging President-elect Mahama to demonstrate leadership by addressing the alleged violence. Madam Patricia Appiagyei calls on citizens to remain vigilant and report any alarming activity to security agencies.
