Following the intense vetting process of Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa by Parliament’s Appointment Committee, tensions flared, leading to the suspension of four MPs: Frank Annor Dompreh, Rockson Dafeamekpor, Hassan Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib. The suspension was a result of a chaotic incident that damaged state property, including tables and speakers.
On the same day, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin expressed his displeasure to the Clerk of Parliament, Mrs. Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, stating, “She is a typical NDC member. I will report to the Clerk to Parliament to have her removed.” His comments allegedly referred to her as a partisan.
In response, Minority MPs, dressed in black and red, attended parliament to express solidarity with their suspended colleagues. They pleaded with the Speaker to reconsider the suspension, citing the members’ remorsefulness. The Speaker ultimately lifted the suspension, allowing the MPs to return to the chamber.

Addressing the Minority’s criticisms, the Speaker clarified that the Clerk works under the Chair’s supervision, and therefore, any displeasure should be directed to the Committee, not the Clerk. He condemned the Minority’s actions, emphasizing that public officers, like the Clerk, should not be subjected to ridicule when they err in the line of duty. The Speaker encouraged members to follow established rules to express dissent and adhere to the laws governing their conduct.
