President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Dr. Alexander Adusei from his role as Director of the Keta Port project, which has remained stalled since its announcement.
Dr. Adusei, who was appointed in 2019 during the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo, was responsible for overseeing the development of the port in the Volta Region.

While the official reasons for his dismissal have not been disclosed, it is widely believed that the inability to advance the long-delayed project played a significant role in the decision.
In 2018, the Akufo-Addo government designated Keta as the official site for the port through an Executive Instrument, with plans for the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to manage its development. Despite this, the project has yet to make any significant progress, leading to growing frustration among residents and stakeholders in the Volta Region.
During the 2024 election campaign, Mahama criticized the previous administration, calling it a missed opportunity and pointing out that after eight years, no physical structure had been constructed for the port.
In August 2024, six private investors expressed interest in partnering with the government to develop the facility, though no concrete agreements have been finalized.
