The recent nominations of actress and media celebrity Joselyn Dumas as the Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs in President John Dramani Mahama’s government appears to have generated some controversy.
While many have congratulated the award-winning actress on her new job, actress and producer Safina Haroun has chosen to openly criticize the decision.
In a Facebook remark, Safina Haroun expressed her disgust, declaring emphatically that Joselyn Dumas did not deserve the position.

According to Safina, if the job of Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs been open, the most qualified candidate would have been Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE, also known as Dentaa.

Dentaa, a British Ghanaian businesswoman, actress, TV host, singer, producer, and manager, has long been a prominent personality in the Ghanaian diaspora. She is the creator of The Dentaa Show and the Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards, a program that recognizes individuals and organizations who make significant contributions to the Ghanaian community in both the UK and Ghana.
Safina Haroun’s reply appears to imply that Dentaa’s significant effort in bridging the gap between Ghana and its diaspora population qualifies her considerably more for the position than Joselyn Dumas.
Joselyn Dumas’ new position will see her aiding Kofi Okyere-Darko (KOD), who was just appointed Director for Diaspora Affairs, as verified by Obuobia Darko-Opoku in a Facebook post on February 26, 2025.
