The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a curfew on Nkwanta township.

A new conflict erupted in Nkwanta on January 16th, 2025, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The atmosphere was filled with fear as violent clashes persisted, with reports of gunshots fired by unidentified individuals.

The situation has forced some people to flee the town seeking refuge in nearby towns.

Following this the Ministry of Interior has announced the imposition of curfew on the Nkwanta Township. The curfew is effective Tuesday, January 28,2025. The curfew will run from 8:00 AM to 6:00PM daily.

The government has admonished the residents to exercise restraint and resolve the conflict through established mechanisms.

In a statement signed by Doreen P. Anan, the government emphasized that the ban remains in effect on the possession of arms, ammunition ,or any offensive weapons within the Nkwanta Township and its environs.Those found violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
