SYNOPSIS
A young woman finds herself trapped in an abusive relationship for 7 years, where she endured suffering and made life threatening sacrifices.Despite the torment she struggled to leave. “Through Her Lens” is a powerful film that explores toxic relationships, personal growth, and the importance of healthy love , it also portrays toxic dynamics contrasted with healthy relationships which is particularly noteworthy. The family dynamics and authentic storytelling add depth to the narrative which is performed beautifully from the featured casts.
MY TAKE ON THE MOVIE
People who find it difficult to leave situationships end up making excuses for the other partner , but secretly question their sanity. They succumb to torture and numb their minds to pain. The many instances Zite’s Aunt and Lade made her see reasons to leave yet she held on grounded, the narratives of many abused individuals . A great depiction of reality.
Unlike many movies that portray love without complexities, Through Her Lens showed the indepth transition to realisation of the Character Zite. The film sheds light on the complexities and pain of toxic relationships, where Lade’s character embodied healthy love, providing a positive contrast to the toxic dynamics. Additionally, the movie explored the importance of prioritizing one’s growth and well-being while being in love.
Kunle Remi’s performance was different from the screen lover boy we knew him for. There were few instances he got me guessing about what next to expect. Daniel on the other hand was warm, loving and caring, the perfect antidote for Zite.
Although he wanted her love, he was not overbearing or persuasive. He remained strong through Her transition and made sacrifices that could accommodate her love.
A true reality of people suffering abuse in relationship is that they may never realise it until it is sometimes too late. Everyone tries to shelter them yet they never leave. It simply becomes the norm for them.
WHAT THE STORY DIDN’T SHARE
- Why she kept saying he saved her, how did they meet? What made him the villain in her story?
- Why didn’t she seek a social support outside Lade’s aid.
- Why she was reluctant to explore her desire to become self reliant and independent .
- Lade’s sacrifice of not going back after his vacation ended needed a twist to make it realistic. Probably agreeing to stay for a period or moving with Zite once she accepted his love.
- A flashback story of Lade’s family dynamics that made him leave and the struggles of his mother that informed his new ideology on loving a woman.
Overall, “Through Her Lens” seems to be a thought-provoking and emotionally gripping film that explores complex themes. The film’s themes of self-discovery, growth, and the importance of prioritizing one’s well-being are likely to resonate with audiences.
Instances where Zite’s Aunt heard her being abused on the phone and she came over to rescue her yet she coveted for her abuser clearly depicted how you cannot help people in such situations unless they are willing to help themselves.
Where Lade saw her bruises and wanted to help her yet she dismissed him , and how she ran out after recovering from the hospital because her narcissistic boyfriend Richard manipulated her into accepting an apology.
