Elections 2024: Voter Frustration Rises Over Missing Names and Verification Glitches

Missing names and biometric verification issues Ghana elections 2024

The 2024 general elections in Ghana have been marred by reports of missing names on the electoral roll and challenges with biometric verification devices, causing delays and tension at various polling stations nationwide.

In the Ledzokuku Constituency, confusion erupted at the Old Library polling station after some registered voters could not locate their names on the voter register. A similar issue was reported in the Ablekuma Central Constituency, sparking concerns about the accuracy of the voter register, which had been expected to undergo thorough verification before election day.

Technical glitches with Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) also disrupted voting in several areas. For instance, no votes had been cast as of midday at the Faith Academy polling station in Ledzokuku due to device malfunctions. Other affected areas include Tamale Central and Wulensi, where verification challenges temporarily brought the voting process to a standstill.

Frustrated voters have expressed fears of disenfranchisement. However, polling officials have called for calm and reassured the public that efforts are being made to resolve these issues swiftly to ensure that all eligible voters can exercise their rights.

This latest development has raised questions about the preparedness of the Electoral Commission and the robustness of the electoral systems deployed for Ghana’s highly anticipated elections.
