The Electoral Commission (EC) has directed its regional directors to regulate media and observer access to collation centers during the December 7th election. This measure aims to ensure a secure and efficient collation process.
Under the new guidelines, each constituency collation center will be limited to eight media houses. At the regional collation centers, the limit is set at 12 media houses, comprising TV stations and 7 radio stations.
According to Dr. Bossman Asare, the Electoral Commission has accredited observers at all polling stations nationwide. However, their numbers will be restricted at the collation centers. The commission will provide updates to observers to keep them informed about the electoral process on December 7th.
Many citizens and media outlets have voiced strong objections to the restrictions, arguing that this directive from the Electoral Commission (EC) may compromise the transparency and accountability of the electoral process, which relies heavily on media scrutiny.
