In a pointed critique, John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has called out Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, over promises related to youth job creation. Mahama’s comments came in response to Dr. Bawumia’s recent pledge to prioritize youth employment if elected in the upcoming December 7 presidential race.
Addressing a gathering in Kwamikrom, located in the Biakoye constituency during his Oti Region tour, Mahama expressed skepticism regarding Dr. Bawumia’s commitment. He pointed to the plight of former Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees, many of whom remain unpaid for several months despite previous government commitments.

“Before making new promises, address the debts you owe the youth. Fulfilling current obligations would lend credibility to any new job creation initiatives,” Mahama remarked.
The NDC leader underscored that the NPP had assured NABCO participants of permanent employment opportunities post-training. However, over three years have passed without the promised job placements or full payment of allowances.
Mahama voiced disappointment over the trainees’ unsuccessful efforts to get their concerns addressed, calling it a significant oversight. “It is unfortunate that despite multiple appeals from these young people, nothing has changed. If Dr. Bawumia is genuinely serious about job creation, his first step should be ensuring these youths are paid,” Mahama stressed.
The former president’s comments have reignited public discourse on the government’s accountability, job creation strategies, and support for the youth of Ghana.
