The president elect, John Mahama, has expressed concern about the future of education in Ghana. He pointed that the education system is facing severe financial difficulties. He explained that the entire education system lacked dedicated and committed funding. He emphasized that the entire system:from basic to tertiary was affected by this situation.

He explained that a considerable number of children in the basic level lacked basic amenities relevant to study.
“At the last count 1.3 million Ghanaian children at the basic level do not have basic furniture to sit and study”
He mentioned that this spelt crisis at the basic level. He pointed that there’s a lot of money being pushed to the secondary level but was accompanied with unnecessary spending .
“Even though a lot of money is going to the secondary level, it does not come from a dedicated fund and there is a lot of waste and inefficiency in the way it is being spent ” -He stated
Speaking at a meeting with key stakeholders, he explained that these are the concerns for which he suggests a National Education Review Conference. He suggests they have this Conference to look at the bottlenecks of the situation.
