In a shocking turn of events, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), and his campaign team were ambushed by armed men in the Bono Region. The attack occurred on Tuesday, November 26, at around 11 p.m. as they traveled from Nsakaw to Wenchi following a campaign tour in Namasa within the Tain Constituency.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the team encountered a makeshift barrier along the road. Believing it to be a legitimate police checkpoint, they slowed down. However, armed, masked men suddenly emerged and opened fire on their vehicle.

Evans Ofori, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NDP, recounted the harrowing incident:
“We thought it was a police barrier since we had seen one earlier at the same spot. Out of nowhere, these armed men started firing at us. We quickly reversed, but not before our vehicle’s windows were shattered, causing minor injuries to some team members.”
Despite the frightening ordeal, a police patrol team arrived shortly after the attack, escorting the flagbearer and his team to safety in Wenchi. They subsequently filed a report at the Wenchi police station.
Commending the police for their swift response, Mr. Ofori added:
“The professionalism of the officer traveling with us was commendable. Thanks to him and the patrol team, our flagbearer and all team members are safe.”
The incident has raised concerns about security measures for political candidates and their teams as campaign activities intensify ahead of the 2024 elections.
